I read Island Born while helping with the eBook conversion and was immediately drawn in by the adventure, the romance, and the life choice questions it raises. The author’s ambitious journey is one that many of us would have taken, had we been accomplished sailors and fearless adventurers. It’s a truly amazing odyssey, with unvarnished personal joys and disappointments openly shared. The writing is lyrical and down-to-earth, with enough detail to paint with some dimension both the places explored and people encountered. The author and his wife, Gayle, face serious challenges and grow from their experiences. Occasionally, they take a few steps backwards, as we all have. In some situations, perseverance, hard-won skills, and dumb luck help them along. For anyone who sails, I would imagine that the book would be especially engaging. For everyone else, it’s a very good read!
